Carrick, William Arthur Lawrie

Born in Glasgow on 6th June 1879, he painted landscape and coastal scenes in oils and watercolours. He served his apprenticeship as an architect under Sir J J Burnett and practised for several years in Glasgow. He turned to painting when ill health forced him to abandon his architectural career. Particularly enjoyed painting coastal and beach scenes. Lived for a time in Lanarkshire and Lancashire, then settled in the Morayshire fishing village of Findhorn in 1937, before retiring to Ardgowan, Kingussie, Inverness-shire.
