John Chalmers (1856 - 1893)  was a Glasgow based painter who exhibited at the RSA and GI. He is possibly the same John Chalmers (1881-1933) who was a professional photographer in John Street, Hamilton, Scotland,  and who also exhibited at Glasgow Art Club in 1924 and whose work is represented by three exhibits in Hamilton Museum. From auction results it is evident that there is some confusion regarding even the most basic details of his life.
