Yarnold, Joseph W

Joseph W Yarnold (1817-1852) is today a largely forgotten artist, however was known during his short life as a painter of landscape and maritime scenes.

He is perhaps bet known for a deception by the Royal Academician Ramsey Richard Reinagle who entered an image 'Shipping a Breeze and Rainy Weather off Hurst Castle' for the annual exhibition at the RA, a work actually painted by Yarnold.

Yarnold was unaware of the deception, however the judges at the Academy saw through the submission, and the act of plagiarism was enough to lose Reinangle his place as a Royal Academician.
